Good Morning, Kincardinites! Welcome to this issue of Kincardine Spotlight – where you can find all of the area’s events delivered right to your inbox!
Don’t forget to enter your answer for the scavenger hunt! Here’s how it works:
Each issue will have a trivia question. The answer is located somewhere in the issue. Email your answer to [email protected]. All correct entries will get entered into a draw at the end of the month. Each month a local business will donate a prize. This month’s sponsor is The Little Blue Coffee House in Tiverton, and the prize is a free coffee and muffin (and maybe an extra surprise thrown in). You can enter as many times as you wish. You’ll find more details, the trivia question (and the answer) below….keep reading!
This weekend brings tacos and cheesecake together like only Kincardine can! The first annual Tacos and Cheesecake fest takes place in Victoria Park. $5 admission. Read more in the Events section.
There is a black bear on the loose in the south end of town - hopefully he will be caught and relocated safely 🙂 The municipality published a safety report on what to do if you spot a bear. (Loading up on bear spray may be a good idea)
How can we make this newsletter better? What would you like to see more of? Less of? Or something added that we’ve missed? This is YOUR newsletter and we want to make it right! So tell us your thoughts at [email protected]

A black bear has been spotted in the south end of Kincardine.
What to Do (and NOT do) If You Spot a Bear
Who to Call:
Call 911 or your local police if a bear poses an immediate threat to personal safety, including if it:
Enters a school yard while school is in session
Tries to enter a residence
Wanders into a public gathering
Stalks people or lingers nearby
Kills livestock or pets and remains at the scene
Call the Bear Wise reporting line at 1-866-514-2327 (TTY: 705-945-7641) if a bear:
Roams through a neighbourhood or checks garbage cans
Breaks into a shed where food or garbage is stored
Pulls down a bird feeder or knocks over a barbecue
Moves through a backyard or field without lingering
Is in a tree
The Bear Wise line operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from April 1 to November 30.
If you encounter a black bear:
Stay calm and slowly back away while keeping the bear in sight
Get inside a building or vehicle if one is nearby
Make noise, wave your arms, or use a whistle or air horn if the bear does not leave
Prepare to use bear spray if necessary
Leave bears in trees alone and give them space to come down when they feel safe
Do not:
Run, climb a tree, or swim
Approach the bear for a closer look
Feed the bear
Let your dog off its leash
Make direct eye contact
If a bear attacks, use bear spray, leave the area immediately, and fight back with everything you have.

Bruce County Lighthouses
I don’t know about you, but I think Bruce County has some of the loveliest lighthouses in the country! Six of them were built by prominent Scottish-Canadian stonemason John Brown. These iconic “Imperial Towers” are located along the Great Lakes and in the Georgian Bay region including the Point Clark lighthouse and Tobermory’s Cove Island lighthouse.
