SIU INVOKES MANDATE IN KINCARDINE
Individual Deceased
(KINCARDINE, ON) – The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate following an incident in the Municipality of Kincardine.
On Saturday, February 21, 2026, at approximately 5:50 p.m., members of the South Bruce Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attempted to arrest an individual who had been involved in multiple incidents earlier in the day across South Bruce and Huron County.
Officers with the OPP Emergency Response Team and the Canine Unit located the individual at a residence on the Bruce Saugeen Townline in the Municipality of Kincardine. During the interaction, police discharged their firearm. As a result, the individual was pronounced deceased.
As the SIU has invoked its mandate, the OPP will not be able to provide further information. Any inquiries relating to the SIU investigation should be directed to SIU Communications at [email protected].

The Polar Plunge is BACK – are you ready to get #FreezinForAReason?
Welcome to the Second Annual Kincardine Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Ontario!
We’re thrilled to be back for another year of Freezin’ for a Reason in support of our incredible local athletes. Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors - NPX Innovation, UBC Local 2222, Elliott Construction, and the South Bruce OPP - this community event continues to grow and make a real difference.
Join us on Friday, March 6th, as we take the plunge at the UBC Local 2222 Union Hall on the south side of Queen Street. Once again, plungers will be braving the icy waters inside a roll-off waste bin supplied by Elliott Construction, with the union hall open for warming up and changing after your jump.
This year’s theme is Superheroes & Villains!
Whether you’re suiting up as your favourite hero or unleashing your inner mischief as a classic villain, costumes are highly encouraged - because nothing makes a frigid plunge more fun than doing it in character!
Registration: 6:00 PM
Theme: Superheroes & Villains
Location: UBC Local 2222 Union Hall, Queen Street South Side
Refreshments: Available on-site
