With frigid temperatures blanketing the region, food operators are urged to take steps to prevent frozen pipes.
Remember: You cannot operate a food premises in Ontario without running water.
The Health Protection and Promotion Act requires food operators to ensure they have:
✔️Hot and cold running water under pressure in areas where food is processed, prepared or manufactured or where utensils are cleaned;
✔️An adequate number of handwashing stations, with running water, that are maintained and kept adequately supplied—and are situated for convenient access by food handlers; and
✔️A constant supply of hot and cold running water in all washrooms.
Tips to protect your pipes:
❄️Insulate exposed pipes and faucets
❄️Keep a trickle of water running during extreme cold
❄️Know where your main water shut off is in case of a freeze
❄️Have a plan for backup water access or emergency repairs

Kincardine Beach Safety is warning residents while the beach might be frozen over, shelf ice is a blanket and can have hidden holes leading to people falling into the lake.
The build up of ice volcanoes comes from waves pushing water upwards and the water continues to freeze, making large volcanoes with thin ice around them and does not make it safe to walk over.
Frigid water temperatures can cause cold water shock and hypothermia very quickly and residents are asked to stay off thin ice and the build up of ice volcanoes.
