Grey Bruce Public Heath Centre Issues Safety Guidance For Poor Air Quality Due to Wildfires
Poor air quality can affect everyone's health, but some people are more vulnerable, including older adults, infants and children, pregnant individuals, people who work outdoors, and those with lung or heart conditions. Protect yourself from poor air quality by:
Checking local air quality forecasts before spending time outdoors
Limiting outdoor activities when air quality is poor
Keeping windows and doors closed (if indoor temperatures are safe and comfortable)
Watch for symptoms such as coughing, throat irritation, shortness of breath, wheezing, headaches or unusual fatigue. Move to an air-conditioned space; if symptoms worsen, seek medical advice.
Check in on family members, friends and neighbour who may need assistance and learn about local cooling centres.

The Point Clark Lighthouse opens for the season on Friday, June 26! Visit beautiful Point Clark and book a ticket to climb to the top of this National Historic site and explore the Lightkeepers' museum! Open daily from 10:30am - 5pm. Wear closed toe/backed shoes (no flip flops or slides) Ages 4+ only up the tower (but the museum is free for those under 4!) Notice: Marine Archaeology Survey of SS Erie Belle Wreck Site Planned for Summer 2026. A licensed marine archaeology survey will take place this summer in Lake Huron to document the SS Erie Belle wreck site. Qualified volunteers, including archaeologists, divers, and historians, will document and record remains of the site, including detailed measurements of the Boiler Beach boiler, to help better understand and preserve this part of local history.

Spotlight on History
Sunday, November 9th, 1913 was one of the worst storms ever to hit the Great Lakes. 80 mile an hour winds, sleet, rain and snow pelted the Great Lakes, and a total of 13 ships sank, with 235 sailors lost at sea. Barns and houses were destroyed and more than two feet of snow piled up on the land bordering the Great Lakes. Lake Huron alone saw eight ships sink, and 178 lives lost. The James Carruthers, the Hydrus and the Argus all went down between Point Clark and Inverhuron. (source: Kincardine - Glimpses of the Past)
